Cyclist safety alert: faulty bike brakes recalled

Faulty bike brakes that pose a risk to cyclists are being recalled, according to the US Consumer Safety Commission.

SRAM Hydraulic Road Rim Breaks and Hydraulic Road Disc Brakes for Bicycles have been deemed an injury hazard after consumers reported the brake systems failing.

The recalled bicycle brake models include SB Red Hydraulic Road Disc, SB Red Hydraulic Road Rim, SB 700 Hydraulic Road Disc and SB 700 Hydraulic Road Rim, used as either front or rear brakes. The SB RED brake lever is labeled “RED” on the body of the lever assembly.

The US Consumer Safety Commission recommends that consumers “should immediately stop using bicycles equipped with the recalled brake systems. SRAM is offering a free replacement and a $200 voucher to impacted customers.

More information on which bikes are equipped with the recalled brakes can be found here.
