Johnson & Groninger PLLC was proud to sponsor the Durham Community Health Workers Forum hosted by El Centro Hispano in September 2025. This important event brought together hundreds of community health workers from across North Carolina for professional development, networking, and celebration of their critical work serving our state’s diverse communities.
What Community Health Workers Do for North Carolina
Community health workers are the bridge between healthcare systems and the communities they serve. These dedicated professionals work on the front lines, helping North Carolinians access medical care, understand their health conditions, navigate insurance systems, and connect with resources they need to stay healthy.
For Latino communities in North Carolina, community health workers play an especially vital role. They provide culturally competent care, language support, and help families overcome barriers to healthcare that might otherwise prevent them from getting treatment.
The Durham Community Health Workers Forum Brought Together Hundreds of Healthcare Advocates
The forum served as the premier gathering for community health workers across the state. Attendees gained updates on the latest trends and tools in community health, shared best practices, and connected with colleagues doing similar work in communities throughout North Carolina.
A highlight of the event was the graduation ceremony honoring program participants who completed their community health worker training. These new professionals are now equipped to serve their communities and help improve health outcomes for North Carolina families.
Why Johnson & Groninger PLLC Supports Community Health Workers
At Johnson & Groninger PLLC, we know that injured workers and crash victims often face complex healthcare challenges. Many of our clients are navigating workers’ compensation claims while trying to access the medical treatment they need to recover. Community health workers help make that process easier.
When someone gets hurt on the job, they may need help understanding their medical treatment options, finding doctors who will see workers’ compensation patients, or figuring out how to get prescriptions filled when the workers’ comp insurance company is delaying approval. Community health workers provide exactly this kind of support.
Our firm’s commitment to serving injured workers aligns perfectly with El Centro Hispano’s mission of empowering Latino communities through health, education, and advocacy.
El Centro Hispano’s Impact Across North Carolina
El Centro Hispano serves over 132,000 people annually across 25 North Carolina counties through four offices and five departments. As a 100% Latino-led organization, they understand the unique challenges facing Latino families in our state and provide culturally responsive services that make a real difference.
Their work includes health programs, education services, language access support, and advocacy for immigrant rights. Events like the Community Health Workers Forum help strengthen the network of professionals serving North Carolina’s Latino communities.
Our Booth at the Forum Connected Workers with Legal Resources
Our presence at the forum gave us the opportunity to connect with community health workers and share information about legal rights for injured workers. Many community health workers encounter clients who have been hurt on the job or in crashes but don’t know they have options for legal representation.
We were able to provide resources about workers’ compensation rights, answer questions about what happens when someone is injured at work, and explain how legal representation can help ensure injured workers receive the benefits they’re entitled to under North Carolina law.
Workers’ Compensation Rights Matter for Every North Carolina Worker
North Carolina law requires most employers to carry workers’ compensation insurance. This insurance should pay for medical treatment and provide wage replacement benefits when workers are injured on the job. Unfortunately, many injured workers face denials, delays, and disputes with insurance companies.
Community health workers often see the impact when workers’ compensation claims go wrong. Families struggle to pay medical bills, workers can’t afford their medications, and people return to work before they’re ready because they’re not receiving the benefits they deserve.
That’s why having an experienced workers’ compensation attorney matters. Our firm helps injured workers navigate the system, fight for their rights, and get the medical treatment and compensation they need to recover.
