NC Court of Appeals hears lethal injection case

Last week, CJG attorney David Weiss, along with former N.C. Supreme Court Justice Robert Orr, presented to the N.C. Court of Appeals oral argument in Robinson v. Perry. On behalf of four death row inmates, they argued that North Carolina’s execution protocol must be set according to the state’s public rule-making process in order to ensure that executions are carried out in a humane way. This public process would help us avoid what happened recently in Ohio: a botched execution where the inmate suffered and took nearly 25 minutes to die. This is the least we can do at a time when polls show that nearly 70% of North Carolinians support replacing the death penalty with life without parole if the offenders have to work and pay restitution to victims’ families. You can read more about the Robinson case here.
