The Workers’ Injury Law & Advocacy Group convened for its 19th Annual Convention on October 27-29, 2014. Co-chairing the event were Valerie Johnson and Michael Gruber of New York. The Convention focuses on workers’ compensation and safety laws around the country.
Among the topics presented were The Affordable Care Act and workers’ compensation, the attacks on workers’ compensation judges and their independence, and treating employees like independent workers to avoid taxes and workers’ comp insurance, as reported in the “Contract to Cheat” series in the Charlotte Observer and the Raleigh News and Observer. That series estimated that $467 million dollars is not being paid in North Carolina and federal taxes.
Valerie Johnson serves on the WILG Board of Directors and is recognized as one of its Top Injured Workers’ Attorneys.
