On Wednesday, November 7, Disability Rights NC held its 2012 Champions for Equality and Justice awards event. CJG was proud to be a platinum-level sponsor, because we are aware that people with disabilities often face discrimination and sadly, sometimes become victims of crime. The three honorees were: Jeremy Donohue, who advocates on behalf of persons such as himself with Down Syndrome, and was instrumental in starting the Beyond Academics program at UNCG; Ellen Russell, who helps people with intellectual and developmental disabilities live in their own communities; and Steven Webster, a psychiatric rehabilitation practitioner who developed the Learning Court, which teaches people with mental illness pathways to independence.
