North Carolina Workers’ Compensation Law: A Practical Guide to Success at Every Stage of a Claim, 2nd Edition

Workers’ compensation law is complex. Every attorney needs a practice guide to turn to when they need information about North Carolina’s laws and rules affecting workers’ compensation claims.Working in close collaboration with co-editor Gina E. Cammarano and drawing from the expertise of a host of North Carolina’s workers’ compensation jurists and practitioners, Valerie Johnson edited the state’s most comprehensive guide to Workers’ Compensation law.North Carolina Workers’ Compensation Law: A Practical Guide to Success at Every Stage of a Claim is the go-to source for the answers workers’ compensation attorneys need.  The guide includes contributions from North Carolina’s most knowledgeable workers’ compensation practitioners.  The book goes straight to the source:  a Commissioner, deputy commissioners, and the Executive Secretary of the North Carolina Industrial Commission each composed in-depth guides to practice before the Commission.

Published by LexisNexis in 2012 and fully updated in the 2014 edition, the book provides comprehensive analyses of issues relevant to the pursuit of a workers’ compensation claim and features a wealth of practical tips to help attorneys through every step of a claim. The text also covers the significant 2011 changes to N.C. Workers’ Compensation law.

A few highlights of Valerie Johnson’s professional accomplishments include:

  • Election to the National Academy of Social Insurance,
  • Chairperson of the North Carolina Advocates for Justice Workers’ Compensation Committee, and
  • Service as Chairperson of the North Carolina State Bar’s Workers’ Compensation Legal Specialization Committee.

Ms. Johnson also serves as adjunct faculty teaching trial advocacy at The University of North Carolina School of Law and has taught workers’ compensation at Wake Forest University School of Law.

In short, Ms. Johnson has represented clients in N.C. workers’ compensation claims for  20 years and remains passionate about helping injured workers receive medical treatment and benefits.
