Flags at High Point fire stations are hanging at half-mast today, after the tragic death of a High Point Fire Department employee, killed while riding his bike on Sunday.
Todd Martinez, a fire equipment operator and father of two, was on Scalesville Road in Summerfield when 19-year-old Andrew Bray Barham failed to see Martinez and struck him with his truck. Barham, who troopers say was not intoxicated, fled the scene and hid out at his parents’ home after the fatal collision.
Martinez was taken to Moses Cone Hospital where he died from complications. He leaves behind a wife and two boys, ages 12 and 14. Trooper’s said Martinez was cycling with his wife at the time of the hit-and-run but was ahead of Martinez when he was struck.
