Valerie Johnson teaches important lesson to union members

AFL-CIO workers will know what to do if they are ever hurt on the job, thanks to some helpful schooling from CJG partner Valerie Johnson.

Valerie led a seminar to help union stewards and members understand the best way to protect their rights when they are injured while working. The seminar was conducted at the AFL-CIO’s 2013 Labor School, held in Wilmington last week.

As a former school teacher, current adjunct professor at UNC Law and an expert on the state’s workers’ compensation law, Valerie has a unique ability to explain some of the law’s most complicated aspects in surprisingly simple terms.

To complement her lesson plan, Valerie developed a user-friendly manual to walk workers through the process of filing and winning a claim. Workers’ Comp 101: Lessons You Need To Learn Before It’s Too Late is a brief guide for those who want to ensure they are not cheated by their employers out of money they so desperately need to get well.
